Johan Loeckx

As head of Applied R&D, a division I founded within the AI lab, I manage and coach a team of 9 AI researchers. For more details, see R&D projects in the appendix.

Lifelong learning programme I founded the programme to educate professionals from industry & public institutions in AI. We implement a unique game & experience-oriented approach and have given training to the European Commission, the European Parliament, and many industrial partners.

I teach "Current Trends in AI", "Data Science", "Machine learning" and have supervised >40 Ba/Ma theses and 5 PhD students. I organise "AI challenges" where students build an AI-powered prototype in collaboration with an industrial partner. I also created the curriculum for two postgraduate programmes, including. FARI's "AI for the common good".

With the renewed interest in AI, I expanded the AI lab's collaborations with external parties, both nationally and internationally, by attracting R&D funding and increasing our presence online and offline. In this role, I gave >50 talks and co-organised the 31 st Benelux AI conference BNAIC in 2019.
